Today was a good day.
Today was a good day.
Sometimes it looks like they’re sleeping
This is one of my new babies! Stray d/o/g with an underbite that died in an abandoned building. If there are any d/o/g skull experts, I’m in need of help to find out what kind of breed it was!
I know it’s difficult, if not impossible, to know the breed 100%, but it’s worth a try.
24 hours apart
Yesterday I went for a picnic in the countryside with my friends. We have no car, so we had to go by bus, one of the reasons why I decided not to bring all my vc stuff -gloves, xacto, etc…- with me, but just some relatively small bags, just in case I found some little bird. Long story short, I didn’t plan to bring home any deads.
We were exactly halfway between the city and the big park we wanted to go to and the road was closed. Apparently the bus driver didn’t know about that and had to cancel the run, so we went by walk for the rest of the distance. While walking I smelled something bad. Like really bad. I searched for a couple of minutes looking for the source of the smell, but I was with my friends and didn’t want to bother them, so I just said “whatever” and went ahead, trying to actually not care. While I was eating, tho, the only thing I was thinking about was the horrible smell, trying to figure out what could have died. The call of the dead animal became eventually too powerful to ignore, I knew I had to check, I was too curious, so I asked my girlfriend to come with me to help.
When we arrived to the smelly part of the road, we started to look for a body or bones, and at a certain point I eventually found some tufts of fur. Finally! Didn’t see anyting except fur and little pieces of skin, tho. I then noticed more fur at the other side of a fencing -just to make things easier- and luckily enough that was an abandoned land. I got to the other side of the fence and helped my girlfriend to do the same and started to follow the fur traces. We searched for about 20 minutes and then…
… A badger! I’m searching for one since I started to collect bones! I couldn’t believe I actually found one, but then I remembered: I didn’t have an exacto to cut the head and the road was closed that day, so no bus ride. The only solution was to take the whole horribly smelly and surprisingly heavy carcass and walk home with it + my backpack for a hour and a half trying not to break the terribly thin bags I was going to put the badger in. It was an insane idea.
I obviously did it.
Poor roadkill female ro/e de/er. I was only able to take the head, I’m pretty sure she was pregnant and I would have loved to also keep the baby tho.
I also moved her away from the road.
