Hi!!! I was wondering you you set up and secure your rot cage. I tried leaving a fo.x i picked up out to decompose but it… got taken by another critter. Thanks!!!!!! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒŸ

Hello! I had a baby fo.x that was stolen several years ago, so I know how you feelโ€ฆ

I use welded wire fencing I found in my grandmaโ€™s shed. I also have an old bi.rd cage top as a reinforcement in case the fence fails. I set up the fence around the carcass in a large enough circle so that nothing can reach through to touch it and secure the bottom with sticks and bones from previous carcasses, the most ideal bones being ribs and t.urtle scapula/coracoids, since theyโ€™re shaped like boomerangs and both ends can be shoved in the ground on either side of the wire to keep it secure. Then, if the carcass is small enough to squeeze under the b.ird cage top, I use that as well and secure it too. Now the fencing is wide open at the top. I bend the edges together and tie them closed with bread ties or pieces of the wire Iโ€™ve cut off. You could also use a big cage/metal trap for your carcasses instead! I may eventually switch to that because it seems way easier.
