First deer of the year, a little Fallow buck (Dama dama). There are four main coats for fallow, this guy being melanistic which is actually quite common! The fallow rut lasts until the end of April and bucks will fight for their territory and does in this time. This one had a partially healed broken jaw, probably from fighting a bigger buck.
His skull is in the rot pot now, but I think I might be doing a shoulder mount instead. It’ll be on hold until I can get some more tanning supplies anyway, so might as well clean the skull up nice first!
(I know not everyone wants to see the dead animal part, so let me know if you need any more tags!)
